Canister is Laurel & Gyasi

Who are we?

Canister is an instrument for Laurel and Gyasi to do great work for companies who are working to improve lives. We have pooled our complementary skills and interests in Canister: a container for ideas.

Laurel Swenson, BFA, CGD—Art Director & Co-principal
Certified Graphic Designer, Society of Graphic Designers of Canada

Gyasi Bourne, BASc—Creative Director & Co-principal

Laurel is an art director and graphic designer who has been designing material for healthcare, life sciences, music & film, government, and many other businesses and organizations for over fifteen years. She's the creative force behind the operation. Gyasi is an engineer who has spent his career designing and developing new medical technology. He works at Canister part-time outside of his daytime commitments (who needs sleep?) managing projects, editing, producing work and bookkeeping.

Over the years we have teamed up for a wide variety of projects and have found that we like working together — a lot. In 2008 we decided we needed an excuse to work together on a regular basis, so we founded Canister. We focus our efforts in the realm of health and life sciences because Gyasi has a history with the realm, and we both like playing a role in our clients' efforts to improve lives.

We are two hyper-responsible, enthusiastic, get-it-done, idea people who love working for ourselves. We bring together the technical, the creative, the project management and the communication skills to make great work... that works. We have a superb team to draw upon: programmers, photographers, Drupal developers, designers, production artists, 3D animators, illustrators — whatever a project demands, we either have (or will find) the right people for the work.

We operate in a highly ethical manner, maintain high standards of work, and are friendly enough that you might even end up going out for a drink with us. We have good ideas, we solve problems, and we say it like it is.

You will like having us on your team.
